Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in a career in speech-language pathology or special education? Looking for work experience with special needs kids? Consider an exciting position at London Speech and Language Centre!

We offer volunteer positions in the office and in our group therapy programs. Volunteer classroom assistants work closely with college-registered speech-language pathologists and teachers at our Talk it Up and Read it Up Saturday programs. They receive training in how to develop speech, language, literacy, behaviour and social interaction skills in children, and are responsible for the use of treatment strategies in our small group classrooms.

Work directly with special needs kids while enhancing your resume, improving your application to professional school or fulfilling community service requirements for high school.

The Ideal Candidate…

  • Is a high energy person who enjoys children and relates well to people of all ages
  • Is patient, caring, enthusiastic and eager to learn new skills
  • Is considering post-secondary studies in speech pathology, education or early childhood development.

Why Volunteer?

  • Learn more about speech-language pathology or special education
  • Acquire valuable hands-on experience
  • Work with children with a variety of communication and learning difficulties.
  • Learn to use behaviour and social intervention strategies
  • Improve collaboration and team building skills

Here's what some of our volunteers have said about their placements at LSLC:

  • "a phenomenal experience with continuous learning opportunities"
  • "the staff were very friendly and helpful"
  • "there was a lot of opportunity to ask questions and receive thoughtful and thorough answers"
  • "the environment was comfortable and supportive"

  2. Volunteers will provide at least 20 hours of in office assistance before working directly with any children in our clinical programs.
  3. Minimum clinical work commitment of one day per week for 16 weeks (typically Saturdays).
