Screening Test for Preschoolers
(Aged 3-3½ Years)

Directions

Check the box each time you can answer "yes" to a question. Keep in mind that your child is not necessarily expected to be able to do everything the questions ask, and that some of the skills questioned on this form are not necessarily expected of a child this age.

Can your child carry out at least two or three simple directions given in one long utterance? (For example, "After you put your blocks away, get your coat and we'll go out.")
Does your child engage in pretend play to keep himself/herself occupied for at least 20 minutes?
Does your child participate in "mini" conversations with you or others?
Does your child use at least three word phrases such as "He go outside", "Push truck down", "Go outside now"?
Does your child put simple sentences together to tell others what to do, to ask questions or to share ideas?
Does your child respond appropriately to questions about a picture story you have read to her/him?
Can your child tell how common every day objects are used and who used them?
Are your child's sentences almost adult like?
Do neighbours and others outside the family understand most of what your child says?
Is your child's pronunciation or words equal to that of most other children his/her age?
Can your child imitate correctly sounds that he/she has mispronounced in a word?
Does your child pronounce the beginning and final consonants in most of the words that she/he uses?
Are you satisfied with your child's pronunciation?
