One-on-one tutoring at London SpeechCommunication Assessments

Speech-Language Pathologists use observation, collateral interviews and formal testing to evaluate a broad range of communication skills. Depending upon referral concerns, testing could include an evaluation of articulation, expressive vocabulary and grammar, oral description, fluency, oral peripheral structure and function, listening comprehension and recall, social interaction, reading and written communication skills. We can also assess all areas of cognition that impact on communication including attention and concentration, memory, problem-solving, and higher level thought processes. Assessment results help determine whether or not a problem exists, areas of relative strength and weakness, prognosis for improvement, and goals and procedures for intervention.

Individual Therapy

Treatment builds skills using focused practice, real life situations and homework assignments. Family, employers, teachers and other members of the community are involved in treatment, where appropriate, to ensure success. Therapy is offered by Speech-Language Pathologists, or by Communicative Disorders Assistants, who work under the direction of Speech-Language Pathologists and at a reduced fee.

Individual Academic Tutoring

Our academic tutors work individually with clients to develop subject specific competencies, study skills, test taking strategies and other organizational skills known to affect academic and vocational success. Our tutors are Certified Teachers with special education backgrounds. They are available for appointments in the clinic, in your home or at your school.

Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Thinking and communication changes are one of the most common consequences of a traumatic brain injury. Brain injuries often go unrecognized for some time after an accident. Our Centre can help with assessment and treatment. We were the first community based service in the city, and offer:

  • cognitive-communication assessment for identified or suspected brain injuries
  • individual and group therapy for cognitive, communication, social and/or behaviour disorders
  • family, teacher and employer education and support
  • case coordination and referral
  • academic tutoring
